NAPA Survey 2026

Work in progress. Last update: March 16, 2026.

Survey for Arctic small-scale tour operators (max 24 m/12 passengers)

Welcome sailors!

We are conducting a short survey among small-scale sailing yachts interested in the tour operations in the Arctic region. The goal is to create a stronger, collective voice for sustainable, low-impact sailing in these pristine and sensitive waters. Small sailing boats are obviously creating a much lower environmental impact than large cruise ships. And with a small group of visitors on a yacht, we can foster a greater understanding and closer connection to the fragile Arctic habitat. We are a group of sailors and scientists who have identified ourselves being a small and scattered sector in a fast-growing Arctic tourism bonanza, where the big cruise ships and large-scale operators are pushing all limits – including ours. It is therefore important to make our voice heard through cooperation and joint efforts so we can all contribute to the shaping of our own future.  This survey is being conducted by Sailing4Science in collaboration with NAPA  - The Nordic Institute in Greenland, as part of our ongoing initiative to develop and produce a statement and guideline – The Eco-Arctic BluePaper – by and for small-scale sailing tour operators.

Your voice matters – you are invited

If you operate within the sector – a less than 24-meter vessel and a maximum of 12 passengers – you are welcome to join us. Your valuable feedback will help shape guidelines, influence policies, and protect this unique region for future generations.  All contributors will be acknowledged, and your expert opinions will (with your consent) be shared with policymakers and authorities to help make your voice heard where it matters. The survey results will also be published. Please contact us if you want to be a partner in the project, or if you just want to contribute. Thank you for your time and attention, and willingness to help us make a positive change.
