After six weeks of sailing and sampling along the Swedish and Norwegian coast, the crew of the DiverSea Project and Expedition 2025 arrived in Trondheim. 13 crew members have been part of the adventure, lived together, and shared the life onboard the sailing yacht and ocean lab Hrimfare – the Mothership for Sailing4Science. They sailed from Smögen in Sweden up to Trondheim in Norway, docked in city harbours and small marinas, and stopped at more than 35 sampling stations to collect plankton, water, chemical data observations, and sediment from the seabed.

Biodiversity message delivered, global awareness created Along the way, the crew has showcased the project and lots of "cool ocean stuff" in a dedicated tent and talked to people from all over the world, thanks to an intense tourism season along the beautiful coast of Norway – locals, visiting tourists, scientists, sailors, media, and ordinary people from all walks of life have ended up in the tent and onboard Hrimfare.

Wrapping up and starting the next phase

Collecting scientific samples is like picking mushrooms – lots of work is waiting for you when you come home. So, all the samples are now being stored safely – dark or cold or both – and categorized for upcoming analysis. Images and stories are also being wrapped up and will be shared on our respective social media channels, websites, blogs, and newsletters. And the 67-foot steel yacht Hrimfare will be shown some attention and love as well. On top of that, new expeditions and adventures are already in line for preparation and planning. The Sailing4 Science expedition 2025 can be considered a success, generating a lot of interest and creating an inspirational buzz in the sailing and research community.
