Our expedition "Ocean Living Lab" started from Trondheim in mellow winds, with beautiful sceneries and Nordic Lights, and a few days later pounded through some pretty harsh weather before the storm Amy hit our route over Skagerrak. The crew was safe at all times and arrived well in Gothenburg. The safety first policy is always on top of the priorities at our expeditions, so before the storm hit the area in its full power, our yacht Hrimfare was safely tied up in the port of Hirtshals, on the west coast of Denmark.

Say hi to the expedition crew – Martin, Aksel, Jakob, Ralph, Clara, Louisa, Mark and Einar (+ Bjorn behind the camera). We're sailors, students and scientists...here preparing ourselves for an offshore stretch in harsh winds over Skagerrak. We're sailing onboard one of the safest sailing yachts on the planet, built for racing around the world "the wrong way" against prevailing winds and currents – one of the iconic Challenge 67 steel yachts, SY Hrimfare, the Mothership of Sailing4Science.

The expedition was one of several corner stones in an ongoing pilot project for the creation of a university "Summer School Program". The vision is to offer students a sailing4science opportunity that consists of a rich palette with experiences, insights, co-creation opportunities, adventures and lifeskills: – Participating in activities outside the comfort zone

– Connecting to the ocean, the weather, and the strong powers of nature

– Learning seamanship, safety needs, and practical life hacks

– Building self-esteem, trust, confidence and social skills

– Training in personal leadership and group dynamics

– Conducting ocean research sustainably with a minimum footprint

– Accessing democratized ocean research with light and low-cost approaches

– Improving effective and apprehensive communication skills

– Experimenting with sustainable lifestyle alternatives Sailing from Trondheim in Norway to Gothenburg, Sweden in the conditions we did, fulfilled most of the above very well...some of them obviously more than expected:-) Check out the map and short stories on Google Earth:
